AstroCon
AstroCon is an annual astronomy conference hosted by The School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (TSAA). Each year TSAA endeavours to give its students the opportunity to network with professional astronomers and university staff.
AstroCon19 will be hosted at The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, University of Southern Queensland and Brisbane Planetarium from Monday 17 June to Saturday 22 June 2019.
Due to physical limitations on the activities and projects that are overseen by astronomers, only 10 places can be made available, so the expressions of interest will be accepted on a 'first in best dressed' basis.
Students from outside Brisbane will fly in and meet with students from Brisbane on the Monday afternoon at:
Brisbane City YHA
392 Upper Roma St
BRISBANE CITY QLD 4000
Accommodation and a conference room has been booked here for Monday and Tuesday nights.
While in Brisbane, students will visit several universities including QUT, UQ and USQ to participate in astro workshops and talks, and will be able to network with leading astronomers from each of these universities. Students will also see an astronomy show in the Brisbane Planetarium and will be able to see the telescopes and astronomy equipment there. This year, we have been very lucky to secure a lecture with Professor Brian Cox at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre!
Students will then travel to the Mount Kent Observatory for some hands-on experience with the telescopes and solar image processing.
The cost to students will be $1,050 including airfares, or $650 for students joining in Brisbane. This will cover the cost of travel expenses, accommodation and food for the week.
If you are interested, please fill in the
expression of interest form as soon as possible.
