Course description
Senior Astronomy is designed to be an online, highly flexible and highly challenging subject for students with an interest in maths and physics. Begin the course at any time of the year, and study on the holidays, weekends, or fit Senior Astronomy into any subject line. Our students have access to a range of help and support technologies that connect you to our facilitators using a live text chat, video conferencing, integrated checkpoints, Q&A forums or email. The course is recognised by the Queensland Curriculum & Assessment Authority (QCAA) and students are awarded a 'Certificate of Completion' on successful completion of the course.

Fees
*Non QLD State school students will need to enrol as a part-time student through Atherton SHS. Courses are delivered online through QLearn, the Department of Education QLD's online learning platform.
Note that the fee is charged once only per course. The course can be studied across multiple year levels with no additional charges.
Course specification
Students will learn how to quantitatively model and apply the laws of physics to a wide range of astronomy related topics which will empower them as rational and creative thinkers, engaging them in the acquisition of knowledge and the development and understanding of the physical aspects of astronomy through active processes of scientific investigation and research.

Senior Astronomy is recommended for Year 11 students who have achieved high grades in Year 10 mathematics (advanced) and science. It is desirable for students to be studying Mathematics Methods and Senior Physics concurrently with Senior Astronomy. The course can be delivered to talented Year 10 students as an accelerated curriculum option for mathematics and science.

Students need to have a supervisor who will read and agree to the supervisor's declaration. A supervisor is someone who we can contact for queries relating to assessment and progress. Your supervisor will have to setup and supervise your supervised assessment items.
