Robotic Solar and Optical Telescopes

In recognition of the school’s commitment to quality astronomy education, the University of California, Berkeley (USA), gifted us a robotic 14” Schmidt-Cassegrain optical telescope on behalf of the Hands-On Universe (HOU) project.  James Cook University Townsville also donated a dome to house the telescope in, along with a smaller enclosure for our 90 mm (3.5”) solar refractor.  Both telescopes will be operated by students via computers in a control room within our nearby auditorium.

Online Conferencing Facility & Observatory

We are currently in the process of finalising architectural drawings for the construction of an Online Conferencing Facility & Observatory.  This facility will allow for the delivery of online lectures, web conferencing and 3-D interactive theatre productions.  Students will enjoy a state-of-the-art observatory to conduct regular public observation evenings and meaningful research activities.
